I recently visited Japan for a week. It was a great time, and I decided I wanted to get a feel for agricultural practices in the country, so I volunteered at a farm. Nobody spoke any English, so it was a good opportunity to practice my Japanese. We did various tasks like digging and cleaning potatoes, packaging vegetables to be sold at the market, weed management, and harvesting vegetables! So much fun, and I learned a lot. Farms near Tokyo are small scale and rely on community members to operate, especially with the currently aging population. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
